Weekly Topic: Attachment Issues and Adoption

One of the scary things that my wife and I are facing is the issue of attachment. It is a misconception that ALL abandoned children live in one of the state sanctioned orphanages. Some of the children are actually nurtured in a foster care situation where the children are FROM a particular orphanage, but actually live and are cared for by a Chinese family.

Even if the children were all in an orphanage, that magical day for us parents may be the most traumatic day since their initial abandonment. It is important to understand attachment and how it manifests itself because EVERYTHING familiar to these children will be taken away. They will be with people they do not know, be subjected to rituals never before experiences, and be subjected to food and living conditions never experienced.

I pose that this week we look at attachment and what may be your first battle as parents. I will be including some findings of my own research on the topic and welcome yours.

Jack

Welcome

Hello to all, my name is Jack Bailey. I created this BLOG for to-be-dads, dads who have already adopted, and even those who are contemplating the idea of Chinese adoption. My wife and I are currently waiting on our referral, which should be coming ANY day.

This BLOG was created because I have found NO outlet for guys to talk about the personal issues, fears, apprehensions, and stressed associated with adopting. My vision for this BLOG is for it to be a place where men can come and lay it out...fears, anxieties, preparations, successes, failures, and good ole' fashioned Q and A.

My second vision is to propose a weekly topic of discussion that will come from my experiences, but I would ENCOURAGE all of you dads to chime in and submit topics of your own.

Since this is a BRAND NEW BLOG, please let those in your realm of influence know about this BLOG and ask them to join in. I will be marketing this BLOG around the internet and will be bringing in advertisements that ONLY APPLY to adoption, preparation for travel, and raising good children.

Again, make this a place where information is freely shared, friends made, and hopefully journeys to the East are made easier.

Blessings,
Jack Bailey
